Banner and Puppet Making! PREPARING FOR MAY DAY!

Dear friends, community members, and allies,

We invite you to join in a creative event to create banners and puppets in preparation for May Day. As our communities, family and friends are being threatened by the Harper Attack, we invite you to actively participate in our series of events on May Day. May Day is a commemoration and active civic engagement that takes place on International Labour Day, whereby we remember the struggles of workers across the world who have fought and continue to fight for fairer wages, better working conditions, and equal economic opportunities. This day, is for all members of Canadian society.

Both citizens and non-status peoples, persons of colour and queer communities, migrant workers, women, youth, children, students, persons with disabilities, persons of all faiths. Our government and the corporate elite are deploying measures of austerity that is leading to the depletion of our much valued social and public services, an increase in criminalization and racialization of our communities, continuous colonial and environmentally racist practices against indigenous peoples and lands, and supporting wars that are killing innocent civilians.

We will be hosting a banner and puppet making party. We would like to share our resources and creativity with members of the community, organizations, and others to create a message that will send a direct message to the Harper Government that we will not accept any political, economic and social policies that will bring damage to members of our society and the environment. A participatory workshop will also take place during the workshop as a means of sharing how we are currently resisting policies that are affecting us, and a discussion on how we can create sustainable solidarity network after May 1st.

Please join us:

Date: Saturday April 28th Time: 9:30 – 3:00

Please let us know if you can come by emailing We look forward to your active participation!

In solidarity,

Solidarity Against Austerity- Ottawa
